Salary: The salary range for this position is CAD $32.84/Hr. - CAD $41.35/Hr.

Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Hemodialysis Unit delivers practical nursing care as part of an integrated nephrology team. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the LPN independently performs complex renal interventions, including pre-, during, and post-dialysis activities, while collaborating with RNs/RPNs and the healthcare team to ensure safe, effective patient care. This role supports patients and families in line with professional standards and Providence Health Care’s values.

What You Bring:

Education

• Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies, and successful completion of a recognized Dialysis Program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus one (1) year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Current basic cardiac life support certification.
• If the applicant does not possess the required qualifications, PHC will fund Post-Basic Education. Funding will consist of 100% for tuition and books; and wages at a rate of 100% of the posted FTE. The length of the Post-Basic Education is approximate. Eligibility for Post-Basic Education is restricted to applicants with a minimum of one (1) year acute care experience and who have not received Post-Basic Education Funding from PHC in the past two (2) years. Applicant must successfully complete the Post-Basic Education prior to working in the Department.

Your Day to Day**:**

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient care during pre-, intra-, and post-dialysis periods.
• Explain care plans and provide support and education to patients and families.
• Perform patient admission duties, including assessment and care planning with the nephrology team.
• Conduct hemodialysis nursing tasks such as weighing, cannulation of fistulas/grafts, and heparin regulation under RN guidance.
• Administer medications and assist RNs as per protocols.
• Monitor patients, recognize changes, and communicate concerns to RN; collaborate on nursing interventions.
• Document patient observations and treatments accurately in medical records.
• Collaborate with RNs on patient assignments and ensure dialysis access viability.
• Maintain knowledge of dialysis equipment and report malfunctions.
• Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement, and patient rounds.
• Assist in orienting new staff on procedures and equipment use.
• Stay updated on nephrology trends through education and workshops.
• Ensure a safe environment by following safety protocols and reporting hazards.
• Perform clerical duties such as answering phones and maintaining records.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
