Overview:
A Mechanical Design Engineer focuses on applying engineering principles to research, design, develop, and test new mechanical systems and products, including machinery, hydraulics, electrical and tooling. Key responsibilities involve creating designs using SolidWorks software with best engineering practice, analyzing performance, developing prototypes, and working with the Manufacturing Supervisor to ensure products meet functional, safety, and cost-efficiency requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Use SolidWorks to create and update detailed technical drawings, 3D models, assembly prints, fabrication specifications, jigs, and tooling for new and existing waste and recycling systems.
- Research & Analysis: Analyze current products, investigate failures or maintenance issues, and evaluate performance to identify improvements and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Testing & Validation: Plan, conduct, and document functional tests on hydraulic and mechanical systems; record and evaluate data, making design adjustments as needed.
- Manufacturing Support: Provide technical guidance to fabrication and assembly teams, applying design-for-manufacture (DFM) principles and assisting directly when required to ensure smooth production and installation.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Work with suppliers, project stakeholders, and internal teams to review designs, coordinate project timelines, and incorporate feedback.
- Project Management & Reporting: Prepare material, cost, and timing estimates, track project progress, and provide updates and reports on manufacturing and emerging product lines.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of research, design specifications, testing results, operational procedures, and safety compliance.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Engineering Expertise: Strong foundation in physics, chemistry, mechanics, and product-focused problem-solving with an investigative, practical approach.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in SolidWorks, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Microsoft Office; adept at using CAD for design and analysis.
- Analytical & Innovation Skills: Skilled in analyzing data, identifying root causes, and developing effective, creative solutions; passionate about innovation and staying current with emerging technologies.
- Project Management & Leadership: Proven ability to manage timelines, budgets, and resources, with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Communication & Documentation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experienced in documentation, presentations, and effective collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
- Technical Background: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of three years’ mechanical engineering experience.
- Hands-On Aptitude: Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Coursework or experience in Waste and Recycling equipment is preferred.
