THE OPPORTUNITY

Tundra is excited to announce an opportunity for a Field Safety Coordinator based out of the Estevan Office.   The main responsibility of a Field Safety Coordinator is to play a key role in the development, implementation and monitoring of Health, Safety and Training systems, standards, procedures and guidelines. This position will be responsible for coordinating the planning and implementation of key department programs.    

REPORTS TO: Director Health and Safety

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Prioritize, scope, resource and implement all aspects of the field emergency response program including facility and pipelines.
• Complete inspections of operated facilities, noting deficiencies and following up on corrective actions.
• Spend time with new operators ensuring they understand the safety program and the requirements of said program.
• Conduct or be directly involved in incident investigations dependent on the severity.
• Support the completion of timely regulatory and internal reporting/notification of events.
• Ensure follow-up and/or investigation of events (depending on the severity of the loss).
• Support Certificate of Recognition initiative.
• Support corporate initiatives involving Safety and Health training.
• Manage day-to-day requests for interpretation of regulations, guidance on Health and Safety issues, assistance with and review of site-specific procedures, etc.
• Be available on an on call/as needed basis for after hours events and emergencies.
• Provide guidance, training and technical support on Occupational, Health and Safety issues.
• Provide sound advice to appropriate stakeholders, attending meetings and interacting regularly with groups or individuals within the operating area.
• Participate in Health and Safety meetings through topic suggestions, presentations and monitoring of minutes. When attending safety meetings, present to the attendee’s recent high potential and major incidents within our organization.
• Provide expertise, guidance and support on Health and Safety issues during operational activities including turnarounds, pre-job meetings etc.
• Assist with coordination and delivery of Health and Safety training as required.
• Enlist the support of others with regards to program design and implementation.
• Work closely with operators, contractors, vendors and other persons to ensure that the Health and Safety mandates and vision are adhered to at all times; any concerns are immediately raised with the Health & Safety Director.
• Assess effectiveness of existing programs and participate in the development of new programs and approaches to ensure compliance with legislation and company Health and Safety policies.
• Ensure Health and Safety strategies are aligned with performance improvement priorities and corporate fiscal objectives.
• Communicate successes & failures of other operations.
• Other duties as required.  

WHAT YOU NEED

• Minimum High School Diploma.
• Post-Secondary education is considered an asset.
• A certificate in Occupational Health & Safety is considered an asset.
• Minimum 3 years of prior safety experience is required.
• Previous oilfield experience is considered an asset.
• CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) is considered an asset.

• Attention to detail coupled with the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, with policies, laws and regulations, and safety related correspondence.
• Collaboration and teamwork required, utilizing communication techniques.
• Must take initiative to achieve goals and identify, complete and implement new programs as directed by the Director of Health and Safety.
• Ability to build solid relationships across a variety of levels of the company.
