A cashier is responsible for processing customer transactions accurately and efficiently while providing excellent customer service. This role involves handling cash, credit cards, and various payment methods, as well as maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Customer Service Here's What You'll Get to Do:

  • Greet customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Provide assistance and answer customer inquiries.
  • Ensure a positive and professional customer experience.

Payment Processing

  • Accurately ring up purchases and items using a cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Handle cash, credit/debit cards, and other payment methods.
  • Calculate and provide change to customers.
  • Verify the authenticity of payments and identification when necessary.

Cash Management

  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer throughout the shift.
  • Count cash at the beginning and end of the shift to ensure it balances.
  • Follow company procedures for cash handling, such as making bank deposits.

Receipts And Records

  • Provide customers with printed or electronic receipts.
  • Keep accurate records of transactions and receipts.
  • Reconcile sales and payment totals at the end of the day.

Product Knowledge

  • Familiarize yourself with the products or services offered by the business.
  • Be prepared to answer questions about prices, promotions, and product availability.

Security

  • Follow security protocols to prevent theft and fraud.
  • Report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

Cleanliness And Organization

  • Maintain a clean and organized checkout area.
  • Restock bags, receipt paper, and other supplies as needed.

Shift Balancing

  • Complete daily shift reports and hand over responsibilities to the next cashier at shift change.

Here's What You'll Need

  • A minimum of a grade 12 education.
  • Previous cashier or customer service experience is often preferred.
  • Knowledge of Silverware POS system would be an asset.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.

Shift Various shifts Monday to Friday plus Weekends and Statutory Holidays.

Employment Type Casual
