About the role
Agilus is recruiting for a Chief Estimator – Demolition in the Construction industry in Vaughan, Ontario. Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Chief Estimator – Demolition to lead the estimating department. This individual will oversee the preparation of accurate cost estimates, budgets, and bids for demolition projects, ensuring competitiveness, profitability, and alignment with company standards. The Chief Estimator will collaborate with senior management, project managers, and clients, while mentoring and developing the estimating team.
A Typical Day
- Lead and manage the estimating team in preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for demolition projects of varying size and complexity
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, contracts, and addenda to identify scope requirements and potential risks
- Develop cost breakdowns, labor, equipment, and material take-offs, and subcontractor/vendor pricing
- Manage pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client consultations to evaluate project requirements
- Establish and maintain subcontractor and vendor relationships; solicit, analyze, and negotiate pricing
- Present estimates, proposals, and budgets to senior leadership and clients
- Ensure estimates comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental considerations specific to demolition.
- Collaborate with operations, project management, and safety teams to align estimates with field execution strategies
Successful Candidates Will Have
- Minimum 10+ years of estimating experience, with at least 5 years in demolition or heavy civil construction
- Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Strong knowledge of demolition techniques, hazardous materials handling (asbestos, lead, etc.), and regulatory requirements
- Proven leadership experience managing an estimating team or department
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, OST, or similar), MS Office Suite, and project management tools
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly
