Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Purchaser to join our HeavyAero team in Calgary.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Supply Chain and Logistics, this position is responsible for the development and ongoing oversight of processes designed to support all aspects of purchasing. This includes cost-effective purchasing of aircraft materials, components & equipment based on the maintenance planning activities.

This is attained using continuous improvement of related processes, while ensuring excellent vendor and customer relations.

  • Create and track purchase orders
  • Source required parts and make vendor recommendations
  • Conduct vendor negotiations to obtain best available pricing while ensuring quality and delivery timelines
  • Actively search for and maintain knowledge of parts availability within our scope of work through existing and future vendor selections
  • Qualify and approve vendors as determined by the need to improve quality of the product and/or lead times
  • Order required parts in accordance with the Part Requisition process and the Aircraft on Ground (AOG) requirements
  • Ensure part costs are applied to the correct job and that all costs associated are billed accordingly
  • Ensure parts are delivered in a timely manner to meet job requirements and meet the appropriate quality and life limits
  • Communicate with stakeholders regularly on status of all orders and shipments as required
  • Ensure the certification and traceability are managed in accordance with strict procedures
  • Ensure customs and shipping documentation is retained in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Participate in an AOG on-call or shift rotation to support afterhours critical jobs as required.
  • Maintain regular communication with DOM/PRM and provide pro-active status updates
  • Prepare a Monthly Activity Report identifying buying activity and associated costs
  • Continually assess operations to optimize the purchasing processes and identify cost reduction opportunities
  • Act as a Receiving Authority (RA) to perform the receiving inspection of incoming aeronautical products in accordance with MPM requirements
  • Accurately track the receipt or distribution of material, equipment, merchandise or supplies to determine inventory and follow-up on discrepancies
  • Ensure timely and accurate data is entered into the Maintenance Software (Procurement Systems)
  • Ensure physical inventory counts are found to be accurate to inventory records and verify quantities provided
  • As required, work with vendors and customers on RMAs/Returns
  • Ensure all dangerous goods are handled in accordance with all applicable regulations
  • Ensure Safety Data Sheet s available/provided for items considered hazardous substances
  • Provide labels for decanted products
  • Keep a safe, clean, and organized work area
  • Prepare policies and procedures in area of expertise
  • Support the controlled goods program as required.
  • Drive company vehicle as required, including parts pickups and drop offs.
  • Perform other related activities, as necessary or as assigned by management
  • Actively participate in the HeavyAero Safety Management System and Quality Assurance programs
  • Respect and uphold all the Company policies, procedures & performance expectations

Skills and Qualifications:

Candidates must have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. You will require knowledge of aircraft materials and parts and a strong understanding of the regulations governing their acceptance for certified aircraft and the process of quarantine action.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in aviation purchasing
  • Experience with a computerized inventory system
  • Knowledge of Maintenance software and QuickBooks is considered an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Restricted Airside Identification Card (RAIC) & driver’s license
  • Must have a clean criminal record
  • Must be willing to work evenings or weekends as required.
  • Must be willing to travel as per work requirements

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work may involve minimal exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust & fumes & minimal physical risks such as walking around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards in aircraft hangars
  • Must be able to meet the physical tasks of the job (e.g. standing, sitting in front of a computer, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting)
  • Must be able to see, hear and properly communicate with others
  • Personal protective equipment, as defined by the Company, will be provided and must be worn.
