Accounting Technician
About the role
Purpose of the Position
The work consists of performing various tasks related to the accounting of the budgetary and financial operations of municipal services or of a set of activities. In this context, the incumbent of the position has to make compilations, conduct analyses, and for various billings and contracts, research, verifications and follow-ups as part of the production of various reports and the issuance of purchase orders and invoices. He/she contributes to the reconciliation and balancing of the accounts related to the various tasks.
Main Responsibilities
- Prepare periodic financial statements and reports and gather statistical data justifying the relevance of the information; gather the necessary data, reconcile digital reports, prepare common and year-end journal entries;
- Make the monthly reconciliation of accounts under his/her responsibility, document any discrepancies found, conduct research, enclose supporting evidence, and prepare appropriate paperwork to balance books;
- Participate in the update, conciliation and consolidation of reports and documents enabling the execution of the different budgetary activities attributed to the departments;
- Process grant applications according to the established standards and rules and validate the accuracy of the data;
- Give information to the municipal departments, and occasionally external organizations, concerning their field of activity and, if necessary, transmit the required documents responding to their needs.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Accounting or any other appropriate field;
- Two (2) up to three (3) years’ experience in a job enabling the applicant to become familiar with the employment position’s field.
Essential Knowledge
- Accounting theory, principles, and practices;
- Accountant practices;
- Basic principles of reconciliation of accounts;
- Journal entries;
- Microsoft Office suite tools, advanced level;
- Both languages (French, English) spoken and written.

- Prepare statistical and financial reports;
- Analyze the budgets (adopted/committed and actual);
- Provide quality customer service;
- Write clear and accurate reports;
- Plan and organise his/her work;

Salary scale : $33.44 to $44.60 (35 hours/week)
