Salary: $80,000-$90,000
Blue Door is a not-for-profit registered charitable agency governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We have been an integral part of our community providing essential emergency shelter services since 1982. Blue Door’s mission is to support people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to attain and retain affordable housing.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Accounting Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting the financial operations of our charitable organization. This position oversees day‑to‑day accounting activities and provides guidance to the bookkeeping, payroll, and accounting team. The Accounting Manager ensures compliance with Canadian accounting standards for not‑for‑profit organizations (ASNPO), internal controls, and reporting requirements for charitable entities.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and support the work of the Bookkeeper, Payroll Clerk, and Accountant, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.
- Manage full-cycle accounting, including AP, AR, payroll review, bank reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliation and month-end close.
- Review AP batches, GL coding for invoices, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Assists the Director, Finance in the preparation of the annual budget and interim forecast, contacts Managers and/or Program Directors as necessary to obtain Information
- Assists in preparation of reports for funder, the COO and Finance, Risk and Audit Committee of the Board and is prepared to answer questions as required.
- Support external financial audits, including preparation of audit working papers and liaising with auditors.
- Supervise payroll processing completed by the Payroll Clerk.
- Ensure payroll accuracy, statutory compliance (CPP, EI, WSIB, EHT), and timely remittances.
- Assist in administering benefits and pension plans.
- Ensures all reporting deadlines (annual, semi-annual, quarterly, monthly) as required by various Blue Door funders/grantors are met, including ensuring external audits for a variety of special reports.
- Assist in new software implementation.
- Generate reports as required by management.
- Other duties as assigned

- Utilizes effective conflict resolution skills in accordance with (Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
- Fosters positive and appropriate relationships with clients, colleagues, community partners and volunteers.
- Provides referrals and follow-up as necessary.
- Meets with manager on a regular basis and participates in completion of annual performance evaluation.
Occupational Health & Safety
- All employees are responsible for carrying out work in a way that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others.
- All employees shall learn and understand health and safety policies and procedures and will comply with them.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Advanced enrolment in a program leading to a recognized accounting designation (CMA, CGA, or CA)
- Experience in Not-for-profit/charity
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience
- Advanced knowledge of SAGE Intacct accounting software, ADP Workforce and MS Office with emphasis on Excel.
- Familiarity with Outlook and Internet applications, SharePoint, and automated document management systems.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), time management and organizational skills.
- Able to work independently but also as part of a team.
- Sound judgment, tact and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to deal with extremely confidential and sensitive information.
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening Report from Police
- Hybrid or in‑office schedule as determined by organizational policies.
- Occasional evening or weekend work during peak reporting periods.
