We are currently recruiting for an Estate Tax Specialist to join our Tax Operations team. You will play an integral part in the preparation of the client's estate tax slips under the Canadian income tax laws. This position requires deep understanding of tax regulations and a meticulous approach to ensure complete and accurate tax slips are produced.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Responsible for preparing, reviewing, researching, and analyzing estate tax files/slips for accuracy and completeness. Tax slips include TFSA, T4RIF, T4RSP, T4A, RL1, RL2, NR4, RC249 and other customized statements.
  • Perform data validation by sample checking tax reports against estate settlement documents and client account/activity information in our internal system.
  • Monthly reconciliation and review of estate accounts and settlements.
  • Work closely with the Tax team to ensure complete and accurate tax slips are distributed to clients and remitted to CRA/MRQ.
  • Ensure all findings or discrepancies in client data files are escalated, documented, and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the estates team and other business units to review, document and enhancement estate tax processes.
  • Support the Tax team in tax package mail outs, slip amendment process, and answering client tax inquiries during peak periods of tax season.
  • Complete various ad-hoc duties & projects within the Tax department.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in tax function and/or estate reporting

  • Completion of a post-secondary program

  • Familiar with various estate tax slips and forms (TFSA, T4RIF, T4RSP, T4A, NR4, RC249)

  • Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel

  • Strong analysis and reconciliation skills

  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated

  • Knowledge of the broker-dealer industry an asset

  • Knowledge of non-registered CRA, FATCA, CRS, and QI tax regimes an asset

  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills

  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team

  • Overtime may be required during peak periods of the tax season (Jan-Apr)
