Paracel Laboratories Ltd. is a full-service Environmental and Indoor Air Quality laboratory. Our main laboratory facilities are located in Ottawa and are supported by an environmental lab in Hamilton and a microbiology and asbestos laboratory in Mississauga. Additional service depots are located in Kingston, London, Niagara, Windsor, and Richmond Hill. We support a broad spectrum of projects for professional clients from across Canada and around the world. Our client base primarily consists of major environmental consultants, all levels of government and industrial manufacturers located predominantly in Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara, Eastern and Southwestern Ontario.
The Opportunity
Paracel Laboratories Ltd. is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to join our team. This full-time, permanent position is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, dexterous, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for asbestos or fungal analyses by using polarized light microscopy (PLM), phase contrast microscopy (PCM) and brightfield microscopy, and will under the direct supervision of the Department Supervisor.
This is a full-time, permanent position at 351 Nash Rd N, Hamilton, ON L8H 7P4, Canada
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for performing various analyses on a wide range of environmental matrices within a discrete department of the lab.
- Following all steps in company SOPs and methods to ensure a high level of data quality and that all requirements of the company’s ISO accreditation are being met.
- Preparing reagents and standards according to method requirements and logging information as required
- Proper usage of basic laboratory equipment including balances, centrifuges, pH/Conductivity meters, spectrometers, and various volumetric tools, including basic maintenance as required.
- Review and approve sample and QC data as authorized. This includes identifying and preparing re-runs and dilutions as necessary.
- Monitor outstanding work and ensure that analytical holding times and sample turnaround times are met for methods they are responsible for.
- Have a basic understanding of LIMS and any test specific software in order to prepare work queries, generate batches, bench sheets and labels, data entry and other basic tasks.
- Responsible for performing analysis daily QA/QC verifications of gravimetric, volumetric, and temperature for various lab equipment as required. Recognize any non-conformances and report to Department Supervisor so that appropriate action may be taken.
- Communicate with other analysts in their department to ensure required tasks are addressed and to provide assistance as required.
- Ensuring that work spaces are clean and tidy, including cleaning of glassware and various laboratory equipment.
- Organize completed samples for storage according to established procedures. Dispose of expired samples according to standard waste management policies.
- Responsible for monitoring and communicating anticipated supply and material needs for their tasks, to more senior analysts.
- Under the direction of the Department Supervisor, assist in the training of other analysts
- Comply with company QA/QC and Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Geology, Biology, or a related field.
- Superb attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a team or independently.
- Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and ISO 17025.
- Proven computer proficiency, including MS Office (Word, Excel).
