SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Technical, Research, and Grower Relations, the Research Agronomist is responsible for following the company’s safety protocols and procedures; conduct relevant sugar beet research; collect, analyze, summarize, interpret, and report research data; and communicate research findings to company employees, producers, North American Sugar Industry, government, and other agriculture sectors. This position will work with industry and government to maintain, develop, and register products and new technologies. The Research Agronomist will prepare budgets and funding proposals related to sugar beet research as needed.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO WILL:

• Plan and execute a research program that addresses current and future agricultural and storage related issues for the sugar beet industry in Alberta;
• Help manage the sugar beet variety testing program for the Alberta industry;
• Conduct relevant research;
• Be a part of the Joint Company Grower Research Committee;
• Analyze, summarize, interpret, and report the results for all research data collected;
• Communicate research results to individuals, agriculture staff, growers, and other agencies;
• Communicate and work with industry and government to develop and register products and new technologies;
• Attend scientific meetings and other meetings related to the industry;
• Network with other research colleagues;
• Provide technical assistance to the agricultural department related to sugar beet production;
• Prepare budgets and funding proposals related to the agricultural research program and operate within the proposed budget;
• Complete others duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO JOIN THE TEAM:

• Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Agriculture Sciences or combined relevant experience;
• Professional Agronomist designation required once employed;
• Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience;
• Previous experience working with sugar beets is considered an asset;
• Valid class 5 driver’s licence ;
• Very strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Proven ability to create and execute research plans that have identified targets;
• Result and detail oriented;
• Willing to work in both office and field environments;
• Autonomous, adaptable, curious, creative, and able to multitask;
• Demonstrates leadership in living and promoting Lantic’s Mission and Values;
• Ability to manage change;
• Team player;
• High sense of responsibility;
• Political acumen.
