About the role

The Durham District School Board acknowledges that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships, both historic and modern, with the territories upon which our school board and schools are located. Today, this area is home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that the Durham Region forms a part of the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, the Mississauga Peoples and the treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. This posting is for new graduates who have recently completed their Early Childhood Education Diploma in 2025. The Durham District School Board (DDSB) is responsible for public education in the rural settings of Uxbridge, Brock and Scugog Townships and the urban settings of Ajax, Whitby, Pickering, and Oshawa.

Supply Early Childhood Educators accept assignments within our board that could last one day or several days in multiple schools. Our supply ECEs are essential to ensure coverage and support when staff are absent.

The Supply ECE list is a great way to get to know the school communities in DDSB.

Job Summary Under the direction of the Principal, the Early Childhood Educator will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning program within a classroom setting. They will provide supervision and age-appropriate programming for groups of students as part of the extended day program, as required. The Early Childhood Educator will collaborate in the design of programs and environments which will enhance children's cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.

Qualifications

  • Two-year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma;
  • Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full-day Early Learning Program;
  • Child care experience in an educational setting preferred;
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents, staff and the public;
  • Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality;
  • Ability to follow directions, policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner;
  • Experience in planning and implementing age-appropriate programs;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Strong organization and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification;
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program;
  • Must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting, bending, crouching, reaching, etc.).
  • Assist children in washroom routines, dressing, toileting, lunchtime activities.

Additional Requirements

  • Provide a current Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening upon hire.
