Job Summary
A Brief Overview
Reporting to the Department Manager in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies (SKHS), and working closely with the Undergraduate Chair, the Academic Advisor & Undergraduate Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the ongoing development and management of the undergraduate programs within SKHS. This position provides individual and ongoing support, academic advice, and assistance to students in achieving their academic objectives. As a leader within the undergraduate administrative team, the Academic Advisor & Undergraduate Program Coordinator oversees daily administrative operations, manages communication with the undergraduate students and supports student recruitment efforts. The role also supports initiatives that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across the undergraduate student community.
This position provides academic advice to students including degree requirements, course selection, transfers, timetabling, withdrawals, and regulations. This position provides subject matter expertise to students on submitting applications, registration, and/or fee payment. This position acts as a resource to faculty including explaining policies, procedures and student progression. This position also directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.

What you will do
Provides academic advice to students including degree requirements, course selection, transfers, timetabling, withdrawals, and regulations.
Provides subject matter expertise to students on submitting applications, registration, and/or fee payment.
Monitors academic progress requirements including tracking academic records, transfer credits, and facilitating individual student study plans.
Acts as a resource to faculty including explaining policies, procedures and student progression. Recommends changes to policies and procedures for improvement of department services.
Prepares degree lists.
Provides referrals to additional resources.
Refers special academic issues including academic integrity and grievances to the Director and/or Chair.
Coordinates and/or attends events including recruitment events, workshops, webinars, information sessions, presentations and/or ceremonies.
- Directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.
- Participates as a member of various committees.
Forecasts course enrollments.
Coordinates and submits curriculum proposals, changes to the academic calendar, and/or timetabling requests.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education
- Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent.
Required Experience
- More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Knowledge and Requirements

Practical and applied knowledge of specialized methods and processes that are typically acquired through a combination of technical or academic qualification and/or work experience.

Research equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion resources and best practices relevant to the job and unit operations in order to inform evidence-based planning.

Assess the suitability of job candidates and recommend the most appropriate person for hire.
