About the role

Job Title: Mainframe Developer V

Duration: 12 months (Possibility of Extension) Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week – Monday & Wednesday) Scope of Project: BAU -30%, project 70% Team Size/Culture: 5 members Summary Of The Role: Typical Day-to-Day Responsibilities:Able to translate the business requirement to technology like a design document. Then based on the design document, they are able to do the development and the union test. support the seed testing and then implement that in production. Know the life cycle. Must-Have Skills:Strong engineering background delivering enterprise applications, including mainframe solutions, batch processing systems, online transaction processing, and service-enabled integrations.

Strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering)

10+ years of application development experience, including end-to-end design, development, testing, implementation, and production support. Hands-on experience in application design and development, such as COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, SAS and batch processing frameworks. SAS, CA-7, IBM OS/390, Z/OS, TSO, ISPF, File-aid, TIBCO, NDM, FTP, Endevor, Test Sets, Service Now. Strong knowledge of the relevant business domain, engineering frameworks, mainframe platforms, development tools, processes, and procedures used within the organization.

Nice-To-Have Experience in financial services/Card Payment Network industries

Job Description:Client’s Merchant Solution Product Group is seeking a talented Mainframe Software Engineer II to support mission-critical application VMS. This role offers the opportunity to work on scalable, secure, and high-performance systems that underpin TD’s customer data and regulatory compliance platforms. We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer II with expertise in Host/Mainframe technology. This ideal candidate will have strong development skills and experience working in Host environments. You will play a key role designing, developing, and optimizing VMS application while ensuring scalability, security, and performance. Successful candidate might be required to be on on-call rotation. Key Accountabilities Perform moderately complex to complex technical tasks independently, with appropriate guidance for highly complex or high-risk changes. Develop program specifications; design, code, integrate, test, debug, and implement mainframe solutions in accordance with business, technical, and control requirements. Support business inquiries and operational needs through small enhancements, maintenance, and break/fix implementations, including source code, JCL, batch cycle, and related configuration changes; contribute to peer code reviews as required. Participate in quality management reviews, including reviews of designs, prototypes, technical specifications, and requirements artifacts, to ensure completeness, quality, and alignment with business needs. Develop and maintain high-quality code in compliance with enterprise standards, support unit testing, system testing, integration testing, production implementation, and post-deployment stabilization activities. Provide technical support during incident management by analyzing production incidents and outages, performing impact assessments, supporting recovery activities, and communicating clearly with technology and business stakeholders throughout resolution. Contribute to the development and maintenance of processes that help prevent recurring issues, and support root cause analysis, problem determination, and timely incident resolution using appropriate quality and control measures. Adhere to enterprise engineering frameworks, software development methodologies, release processes, and control standards applicable to mainframe development and delivery. Actively identify and support continuous improvement, automation, and modernization opportunities across mainframe engineering practices, including code quality, testing, deployment, and operational efficiency. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, and enhance stakeholder experience through practical, well-reasoned technical recommendations and solutions. Support and implement remediation actions to address performance, risk, audit, compliance, and governance issues within the application and production environment. Keep team members and stakeholders informed of project status, delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and other relevant day-to-day updates. Familiarity with enterprise source control, change management, release management, and deployment practices in regulated environments. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, infrastructure, operations, and business teams.

Education

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. Must-Have QualificationsStrong engineering background delivering enterprise applications, including mainframe solutions, batch processing systems, online transaction processing, and service-enabled integrations.

Undergraduate degree, Postgraduate degree, or Technical Certificate

Strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering) 10+ years of application development experience, including end-to-end design, development, testing, implementation, and production support. Strong knowledge of the relevant business domain, engineering frameworks, mainframe platforms, development tools, processes, and procedures used within the organization. Required Degree/Level of Education: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. Certifications Required: No but if they have Technical Certificate that is an asset Years of Overall Experience: 10 years Preferred/Ideal Candidate Background: hands on experience with COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, SAS, great organizational Preferred:Experience in financial services/Card Payment Network industries
