Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Solid Waste Discipline Lead to guide and grow our Western Canada solid waste engineering practice. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams in delivering planning, regulatory support, design, and construction services for solid waste infrastructure projects, including landfills, transfer stations, compost facilities, disaster response, and waste diversion systems.
Team Leadership and Growth
- Build and mentor a high-performing team of engineers and technical staff across multiple Western Canada offices.
- Drive professional development within the team.
- Promote collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence across projects.
Project Delivery & Management
- Lead full lifecycle project delivery—from feasibility and design through construction and commissioning.
- Manage budgets, schedules, resources, and client communications.
- Ensure quality and compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
Construction Services & Design Implementation
- Oversee the development of detailed design drawings, technical specifications, and tender documents.
- Oversee projects with construction-phase services, including contract administration, site inspections, and change management.
- Support team leads to collaborate with contractors and clients to resolve field issues and ensure successful project execution.
Business Development
- Engage with clients to cultivate relationships and win new work.
- Lead proposal development and contribute to strategic growth initiatives.
Technical Expertise & Compliance
- Provide senior-level review of engineering design (landfills, compost facilities, truck scale and scalehouse designs, leachate ponds).
- Support waste management clients with permitting, regulatory compliance, and operational consulting.
- Support waste management clients with landfill master plans, airspace reporting, and disaster management.
Strategic Planning & Innovation
- Identify waste industry trends and emerging opportunities.
- Develop service strategies, capitalize on market developments, and guide technical direction.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
The selected candidate will have the following qualifications, at a minimum:
- B.Sc. or B.ASc. in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Professional designation in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba
- 8+ years in solid waste engineering or environmental consulting.
Strongly Preferred Requirements:
- Track record of managing complex solid waste projects from inception to completion.
- 15+ years in solid waste engineering or environmental consulting.
- Proficiency in landfill design, landfill gas collection systems, compost facility design, leachate management, landfill planning, and permitting.
- Strong project and personnel management capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including client reporting and regulatory agency coordination.
- Aptitude for strategic and business-focused thinking.
- Valid Driver's License.
The Following preferred qualifications are considered an asset:
- SWANA certifications (e.g., MOLO, recycling systems) are seen as valuable for landfill operations expertise

Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Solid Waste Discipline Lead to guide and grow our Western Canada solid waste engineering practice.
