About the role

TheSummer Law Studentwill provide research and administrative support to the Hearing and Legal Referral team. They will conduct research and work to standardize legal decisions, templates and documents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing research and administrative support by:

    • Researching, analyzing, and compiling authorities on penalty ranges, including case law comparisons, aggravating and mitigating factors, and trends in sanctions
    • Reviewing and organizing prior decisions to extract key principles, holdings, and factual distinctions for inclusion in standardized precedent summaries
    • Draft and refinement of precedent documents, including Notices of Hearing, Briefs of Law, written submissions, and procedural applications
    • Assisting in the development of internal research tools and document templates to facilitate consistency and efficiency
    • Assistance with HLR/Dismiss processes to augment learning experience where appropriate
    • Analyzing and updating template dismiss letter paragraphs and sections for common complaint issues
    • Performing legal research and assisting in developing a precedent bank for common legal issues
    • Assisting in preparation and review of legal documents (section 56 complaints, interim applications, undertakings, etc.)
    • Reviewing and updating standard correspondence for the Hearing & Legal Referral program
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

-Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in post-secondary education with a specialization in legal studies, preferably completed one year of the program
  • One year of related experience

-Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organization and prioritization skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Microsoft Office 365
  • Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
  • Customer-service focused and able to effectively communicate

CONTRACT DURATION

May 4, 2026 to September 4, 2026 (Monday to Friday, 35 hours/week)

PAY RATE The hourly rate for this position is $25 plus 4% vacation paid out on each cheque. Parking or transit reimbursement will be provided.
