As the Senior Leader of Construction Operations reporting to the Manager of Construction and Materials within the Mobility Business Unit, you will manage our in-house concrete and paving operations and quality control program. Primary duties include:

  • Provide inclusive leadership to a team of leaders as well as technical and front-line staff involved in concrete and paving operations through respectful coaching and mentoring.
  • Provide responsible member oversight and management of a quality control program for in-house manufactured materials (asphalt and aggregates) and in-house construction.
  • Manage allotted budgets for pavement and concrete rehabilitation and ensure concrete and paving crews¿ complete construction on time.
  • Implement a workforce, training and resource strategy that supports the division's short-, medium- and long-term plans and aligns with Business Unit and Departmental goals.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase operational efficiencies and improve safety.
  • Develop and implement a divisional safety strategy to ensure compliance with City safety policies and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures, production reports, safety documentation and cultivate a culture committed to health and safety.
  • Liase with internal and external customers to ensure service delivery excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative and professional standards.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering field.
  • You must have at least 8 years of experience in construction operations or project management of infrastructure projects obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details**.**
  • At least 4 years of experience leading and supervising a team is required.
  • Experience working with infrastructure assets including concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, pavement is required.
  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing a strategic vision in a service-based environment, is a preferred asset.
  • Success in this position requires the ability to lead a diverse team of technical and unionized employees. Strategic thinking, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills are required.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
