Job Description We are currently seeking a qualified Senior Control Systems Project Lead to join our Mining team, based out of Calgary, AB . Bantrel is working with K+S Potash Canada (K+S) as an Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT) to expand production at K+S’s Bethune solution potash mine near Moose Jaw and Regina, Saskatchewan. The final production capacity is intended to grow over the next decades to 4M tonnes per year, doubling the current production output of potash. Key team members will support the project from the K+S head office in Saskatoon and at Bethune mine, with additional support from Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto as required.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead control system design and implementation for an ABB 800xA DCS
- Develop and maintain control philosophies, narratives, and functional design specifications.
- Own high-level control system architecture, including system layout, server strategies, redundancy, and integration points.
- Ensure control designs align with operational needs, lifecycle expectations, and site standards.Act as the primary technical interface between Control system programming teams, project management, Operations and maintenance, Vendors and system integrators, Engineering service providers
- Translate requirements clearly between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Facilitate design reviews and technical alignment meetings.
- Proactively surface risks, gaps, and assumptions early.
- Support all project phases: concept, FEL, detailed design, procurement, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and turnover.
- Review vendor designs, programming approaches, and deliverables for technical quality and architectural fit.
- Lead alarm management and rationalization activities.
- Ensure consistent implementation across multiple project scopes and timelines.
- Help define and enforce control system standards, templates, and best practices.
- Ensure documentation quality and traceability.
- Mentor junior engineers and programmers.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Control Systems, or related discipline.

12+ years of experience in industrial control systems engineering.

Hands-on experience leading ABB 800xA projects, including architecture and system design.

Strong understanding of:

Control system architecture and integration

Operator interface design and alarm management
-
Multi-vendor and multi-team project environments
-
Proven ability to communicate effectively across programming groups, project teams, and vendors.

Experience working in brownfield and live operating facilities.

Comfortable working with evolving scope and incomplete information.

Requires professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.

Experience coordinating OT networking and system interties.
-
Familiarity with cybersecurity and infrastructure considerations in control systems.

Prior experience acting as technical authority or design lead.
