Position Summary
Reporting to the Power Systems Studies Manager, the Power Systems Studies Engineer will play a key role in delivering power system studies including short circuit, coordination, arc flash studies, and ground grid analysis/design.
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Saanichton, BC.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct power systems analysis using ETAP
Perform short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and load flow studies, including the preparation of technical reports
Design and analyze ground grids, including step/touch potential and ground potential rise (GPR) calculations
Provide mentorship and training for junior staff
Offer technical support for engineering projects
Prepare cost estimates and technical proposals
Ideal Candidate Experience
Familiarity with medium voltage protection systems and relays (e.g., SEL, GE, ABB)
Understanding of substation control systems
Experience conducting power system studies (short circuit, load flow, arc flash, coordination) using ETAP or similar software
Knowledge of ground grid analysis using CDEGS or comparable software
Solid understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code C22.1 Part 1, IEEE 80, IEEE 1584, and CSA Z462
Skilled in technical writing and communication
Experience working with BC Hydro on power system studies, interconnections, or related matters
Hands-on knowledge of electrical power equipment
Qualifications Legally eligible to work in British Columbia, Canada on a permanent basis
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC); EITs with 3+ years of experience may also be considered
Minimum 3 Years Of Experience In Power System Studies Strong commitment to workplace safety
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently
Valid Class 5 driver's license
