##The role
We are looking for a Technical Officer, Electrical Power Measurements to support our Metrology Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
The Technical Officer provides technical (electrical, electronic, computer, mechanical, organizational, logistical and other) support, and systems oversight in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. If successful, you will be part of the Electrical Power Measurement (EPM) team. Work with the EPM team will involve the testing and calibration of power measuring equipment. The position offers the opportunity to support key technical activities in the EPM facility to underpin Canada’s national measurement system. These activities include provision of world-class high-accuracy high voltage, high current and electrical power and energy calibration services to clients in Canada and North America, maintaining Canada’s measurement standards for high voltage, high current and electrical power and energy, and research activities in the EPM facility.

###Education
A University degree in Engineering or a Technical College Diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or a similar field.

###Experience
- Significant experience working safely with high voltage and high current lab equipment;
- Significant experience performing high voltage, high current and electrical power measurements;
- Significant experience setting up measurement circuits including these instruments that produce reliable results and are immune to external influences;
- Experience performing high accuracy electrical calibrations under an ISO/IEC 17025 quality system;
- Experience in the practical use and operation of high accuracy electrical calibration equipment, high voltage, high current and electrical power equipment, such as current comparators, current comparator-based bridges, high accuracy AC and DC voltage standards, high precision resistors, high accuracy voltmeters and digitizers, high accuracy AC current sources and high precision capacitors, resistors and capacitance bridges, power meters;
- Experience in electronics including design and troubleshooting, and maintenance of lab electrical equipment, and;
- Experience automating measurement systems and data acquisition using LabView and Python.

- Knowledge of workplace electrical safety;
- Knowledge of basic electrical instrumentation and measurement concepts;
- Knowledge of basic electrical circuit and power theory;
- Knowledge of laboratory operation under an ISO 17025 quality system;
- The ability to analyze data, write reports, develop procedures and perform quality system audits, and;
- Ability to work with clients to develop and execute test plans for high voltage and high current instruments both at our laboratory and at client’s sites.
