Job Description
Please note that this is a seasonal position, starting in June and concludes in early September.
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, part-time staff cashiers are responsible for receiving payments for drop-in recreation programs, garbage bag tags and 10 ticket passes as well as answering general customer service inquiries related to Recreation Services.
Responsibilities
- Cash handling
- take payments via cash, debit, credit and cheque
- balance till and coin order float
- Reconcile cash at end of shift
- Enforce and follow City of Oshawa policies and procedures (eg. Fire plan, Accident/Incident reporting, Admission standards, etc.)
- Answer in-person and phone general customer service inquiries
- Be familiar with recreation programs and services (eg. Memberships information, program schedules/cancellations, etc.)
- Administer first aid as required
- Complete accident, incident or complaint inquiry forms
- Report information relating to issues and conflicts within the facility to full-time staff
- Open and close reception area
- Support and demonstrate the City of Oshawa core values of Authenticity, Courage, and Trust
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 11 education
- Must be able to commit to the full term of employment beginning June 2026 through September 5, 2026
- Must be currently enrolled in school full-time or returning to school full-time in Fall 2026
- Must possess and keep current Standard First Aid & CPR 'C’ certificate (or be willing to obtain prior to starting employment)
- Previous experience with cash control and reconciliation preferred
- Demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and trainings, including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays as required
As a condition of employment, the City of Oshawa will require successful candidates to provide a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
