Job Summary
Reporting to the Central Plant Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Key Responsibilities
-
Assists Shift Operator in efficient operation of boilers and chillers for maximum performance
-
Assists Shift Operator in providing ongoing monitoring of Thermal Plant systems and equipment to ensure safety and efficiency (ie. boilers, chillers, diesel generator, electrical transformer, controls, etc.)

Assists Shift Operator in performing maintenance on Thermal Plant systems and equipment to ensure continuous operation
-
Assists Shift Operator in cleaning up assigned areas of the Thermal Plant
-
Assists Shift Operator in performing maintenance tasks as required
-
Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations
-
Performs water treatment control duties, as required
-
Completes log sheets on regular scheduled intervals, as directed
-
Completes daily log book entries on each shift as required
-
Completes daily, weekly and monthly inspection sheets, as directed
-
Energy management through Metasys, as required and directed
-
Maintains a clean work environment
-
Act as Acting Shift Operator when required
-
Act as Acting Rink Operator at Arena when required
-
Performs other duties as required
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus
Required Qualifications
-
Valid 3rd Class Power Engineer’s certificate (standardized) recognized by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration or equivalent
-
Minimum of three years recent and related experience
-
Knowledge and understanding of computer control systems and the Digital Control System (DCS) (burner management system and boiler modulating system) of boiler controls
-
Knowledge and understanding of computer use and various programs
-
Good communication and organizational skills
-
Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints
-
Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations
-
Ability to take direction and be flexible in working hours
-
Must be willing and able to work shifts, rotating shifts and overtime, as required
-
General safety and WHMIS training an asset
-
Must be capable of working alone
