Senior Controls Engineer
$100,000 – $120,000 + Full Company-Paid Benefits + RRSP Match Travel: ~25% (Commissioning & Customer Support – Expenses Covered)
Our client in the machine building industry in Toronto, ON is seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join their team. This role is ideal for a hands-on controls professional who thrives in programming, testing, commissioning, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver high-performance automated equipment.
**must be able to travel to the US
What You’ll Do
Program and debug PLC & HMI systems (Allen-Bradley, Bosch-Rexroth, Codesys) Develop structured, maintainable ladder logic and structured text code Test and commission automated machinery prior to shipment and on customer sites Start up and tune AC drives, servo systems, and motion control applications Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems during build, install, and warranty phases Update electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical Lead customer training and support on newly commissioned equipment Mentor junior team members and support project milestone execution Ensure ISO, safety, and documentation standards are upheld
What You Bring
Engineering degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering/Technology (Controls focus) 5+ years of PLC/HMI programming experience across multiple platforms Strong experience with RSLogix 5000/500 or Siemens STEP 7 Expertise in automation integration, device networking, and motion systems Ability to interpret electrical schematics and troubleshoot at component level Experience commissioning industrial equipment in manufacturing environments Strong communication skills and ability to work under deadline pressure travel to the US to install and commission machinery
