Duration of Program: 6 weeks – June 29, 2026 to August 7, 2026 (Pre-Training between

June 22,2026-June 26, 2026)

Location: Vancouver, BC

Compensation: $32.02 - $34.85 per hour based on qualifications and experience, plus a 25% prep-time premium

Description:

ILSC Vancouver Juniors Residential Program at UBC is seeking qualified and dynamic ESL Teachers available to work part-time, in a friendly, fast-paced environment. Our students are ages 10-17. Teachers prepare lessons designed to increase students’ language skills, their accuracy and fluency, appropriate to a broad range of situations and needs, and in accordance with the ILSC Curriculum Guidelines and Course Outlines. High quality delivery is expected. This is a part time, fixed-term position consisting of 15 instructional hours per week.

The schedule timeline and hourly requirements are as follows:

  • Pre-program staff training will take place between June 22, 2026, to June 26, 2026

  • Your weekly work schedule will consist of five mornings per week, Monday-Friday, from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM

Job Duties:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Teachers prepare lessons designed to increase students’ language skills, their accuracy and fluency, appropriate to a broad range of situations and needs, and in accordance with the ILSC Curriculum Guidelines and Course Outlines. High quality delivery is expected.

  • Teaching 15 hours of English lessons over a five-day week (Monday – Friday mornings from 9:00 AM-12:00PM)

  • Eliciting students’ interests and language needs in an organized way

  • Preparing lessons using recommended resource materials (or substitutes own resources in consultation with the Centre Director)

  • Creating an atmosphere that encourages all students equally in self-expression, self-reflection, cooperation and leadership

  • Evaluating student progress and completing academic records as required by the Centre Director (i.e., class records of attendance, student reports and progress reports)

  • Co-operating with the Centre Director and on occasions with third party agents, colleagues from language agencies, and accrediting Inspectors in the observation and evaluation of lessons

  • Assisting with the welcome, induction and testing of students on the first morning of class

  • Attending staff meetings for briefing and discussion of academic and welfare matters

The teacher is expected to use a range of modern and traditional language learning techniques and methodology including the following:

  • Building students’ vocabulary acquisition for formal and informal situations e.g. dialogues, discussion, role-plays, outings
    Introducing, practicing and reviewing language structures (grammar) using a communicative approach

  • Developing communication strategies such as initiating, maintaining, closing of verbal interactions across a wide spectrum of situations drawn from daily life

  • Increasing communicative skills through appropriate question and answer techniques, presentations, decision-making, offering feedback to others, analyzing and evaluating situations, negotiating, debating, etc.

  • Shaping pronunciation and speech production towards natural English
    Supporting and encouraging students to self-correct

  • Evaluating and offering feedback to the students in ways that increase their self-confidence in using English

  • Incorporating social media and planning age-appropriate language learning activities to engage and motivate students

  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required:

All ESL teachers at the ILSC Juniors Residential Program at UBC must possess the following

qualifications:

  • A completed Bachelor’s degree
  • A completed TESL certificate recognized by TESL Canada (or equivalent, e.g. CELTA)
  • Experience teaching and working with students aged 10-17 years old
