The Role

BGC is seeking an Intermediate Geological or Geotechnical Engineer with a passion to expand their knowledge of geotechnical testing for our advanced soil and rock testing facility in Fredericton, New Brunswick (BGC Engineering | Fredericton, NB (matterport.com)).

BGC’s laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility which specializes in strength, compressibility and permeability testing of soil, and strength testing of rock. Our testing equipment includes cyclic dynamic simple shear, servo-controlled fully automated triaxial, and automated oedometer systems. The intermediate engineer will act as a mentor and technical expert and be responsible for executing geotechnical laboratory tests.

Responsibilities

  • Perform index testing and advanced geotechnical testing of soil
  • Provide support to BGC projects through interpretation of advanced laboratory testing results and the selection of design parameters
  • Support the execution of laboratory testing programs and managing multiple projects with varying deadlines and responsibilities
  • Prepare laboratory test reports
  • Train and mentor laboratory staff and laboratory visitors
  • Follow lab procedures for safety and quality
  • May support BGC projects with office-based geotechnical analyses, when required

Required Education, Experience & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering, with a focus in soil mechanics
  • Master’s degree with hands-on experience in geotechnical laboratory testing is preferred
  • 2–10 years of relevant industry experience, or 0–8 years with a master’s degree
  • Eligible for professional registration as an EIT or PEng
  • Desire to work in a lab and perform advanced soil testing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Position Requirements

Drug & Alcohol Testing To ensure we meet our client’s compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position.  The policy states that an employee may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work. This testing could be requested within an employee’s first week or in the future, as required. It is important to note that some clients also require random drug and alcohol testing, and/or testing in the event of a health and safety accident or incident.

Driver’s License BGC requires that employees have a valid driver's license, and that employees can drive a field pickup truck.  Upon hiring, BGC will require a driver’s abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.

Travel and Vaccination BGC is committed to maintaining a safe work environment to ensure the health and safety of employees while on business travel and during field assignments. Compensation The estimated base salary range for this position is $75,000-$125,000 CAD per annum, however base pay will be commensurate with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. BGC's compensation package also includes a discretionary bonus plan, training allowance, and comprehensive medical and dental plan.
