This Position reports to:
Head of Talent Acquisition,North America
The Head of Talent Acquisition – Canada leads a team of experienced talent professionals, partnering closely with business and HR leaders to deliver strategic talent acquisition solutions across the country. This role ensures the attraction, development, and retention of a workforce aligned with Canada’s business strategy. The incumbent is responsible for developing the Canadian Talent Acquisition team and implementing the global talent strategy to address local talent challenges effectively.
Scope of responsibility and accountability:
- Leads a team of 8 talent professionals managing over 700 annual white-collar requisitions across Canada, from senior executives to individual contributors.
- Oversees the full recruitment lifecycle for internal and external candidates, including sourcing, branding, interviewing, and offer management.
- Provides strategic guidance on recruitment priorities, compliance, and workforce planning across Business Areas, Divisions, and Corporate Functions.
- Supports high-volume periods as needed, while primarily focusing on team leadership and operational oversight.
- Owns the Canadian Talent Acquisition budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost-effective delivery.
Main Accountabilities:
- Talent Strategy: Implements global talent strategies in Canada by partnering with HR and business leaders to align workforce planning with business needs. Shares local insights to inform future programs and identifies top talent internally and externally.
- Team Leadership: Leads and develops a team of Talent Partners, providing day-to-day guidance, performance feedback, and KPI oversight. Manages escalations and ensures a smooth experience for hiring managers.
- Recruitment Oversight: Directs the full recruitment process, from sourcing and branding to interviews and offer management, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and collaboration with the GBS team.
- Vendor Management: Oversees relationships with recruitment agencies and background check providers, ensuring usage aligns with internal policies and is reserved for critical needs.
- Local Expertise: Shares market insights and ensures compliance with Canadian employment laws and Quebec’s language regulations (OQLF).
- Employer Branding: Supports initiatives that enhance ABB’s employer brand, including university partnerships, early talent programs, and online campaigns.
- Process Improvement: Drives continuous improvement in talent processes and systems, contributing to the design and rollout of new tools and solutions.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensures adherence to HR policies, data privacy laws (GDPR), and health and safety standards. Leads training and engagement to promote compliance.
- Reporting & Analytics: Supports recruitment reporting and data analysis to monitor performance and inform decision-making.
Working Environment & Challenges:
- Operates within a complex, decentralized, and highly matrixed global organization undergoing transformation and evolving HR service delivery.
- Balances external market demands for talent with internal expectations for timely, high-quality recruitment services.
- Ensures effective service delivery by collaborating across GBS, HR Business Partners, Sourcers, and business leaders, despite complex global systems and processes.
- Works independently at the local level while contributing as part of a regional cluster.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience:
- 12+ years of full-cycle Talent Acquisition experience in a global, high-volume environment, including sourcing, candidate engagement, and offer management.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role, managing teams of 5+ with a strong track record in coaching, performance management, and team development.
- Strategic and process-oriented thinker with experience leading change initiatives and leveraging recruitment platforms to drive results.
- Strong cross-cultural collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior HR and business leaders globally with a resilient, inclusive, and proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.
- Excellent level of French, both written and spoken. This role will also require fluency in English due to the cross-country and global scope required.
