The opportunity:

Are you a web developer who’s passionate about building accessible, user-focused digital platforms? Join the University of Manitoba’s Strategic Marketing and Communications team, where you’ll report to the Website Strategist and play a pivotal role in enhancing and maintaining key web platforms that support institutional priorities. You’ll be part of a highly collaborative environment, working alongside teams across marketing, communications, and development to plan, build, and deliver high-quality digital solutions.

You should have a strong command of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, along with experience working with APIs, backend systems, and modern development practices. If you write clean, maintainable code and enjoy solving problems in a collaborative environment, this is your opportunity to grow and make an impact!

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • Post-secondary education in a directly related discipline is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years demonstrated experience analysing, designing, developing and supporting web and mobile applications, preferably within Drupal or similar CMS required.
  • Experience supporting and configuring SharePoint-based platforms such as intranet environments required.
  • Experience implementing and supporting integrations between digital platforms and services using APIs or other supported methods required.
  • Front-end development experience with front-end web technology (HTML5, CSS, Javascript, PHP) required.
  • Experience with Drupal (or other CMS platforms) including custom modules, development, theming and third-party integration required.
  • Experience with web analytics and tag management tools (e.g., Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Looker Studio) required.
  • Experience with user experience (UX)/UI principles, responsive design, user-centric design required.
  • Experience with accessibility and usability standards, including an understanding of up-to-date WCAG compliance and validation required.
  • Experience with digital quality assurance tools such as Siteimprove and search platforms such as Coveo is an asset.
  • Experience with Agile project management practices and tools (e.g Jira, Trello) required.
  • Experience providing technical consultation and support to non-technical users, including training or troubleshooting required.
  • Strong ability to analyse requirements and design scalable, maintainable accessible web solutions required.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize development tasks, and establish work priorities and deadlines required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences is required.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgments and utilize problem solving abilities required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary teams, including technical units, marketing and content authors required.
  • Ability to create and maintain clear, structured documentation for technical processes, features and accessibility compliance required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various levels of internal and external contacts required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Understanding of data processing and automation tools and programming languages (Power Automate).
  • Understanding of legalities related to online privacy, data collection, and web services and principles related therein.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and platforms while maintaining alignment with institutional standards and governance.
