About the Role
Buttcon is seeking an Indigenous Relations Representative, who will serve as a bridge between Buttcon and Indigenous stakeholders, ensuring meaningful engagement, effective communication, and measurable outcomes that advance reconciliation and Indigenous participation in construction projects. This is a Part-Time Consultant role.
Buttcon is committed to strengthening its Indigenous relations through participation in the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) Program. This role will provide leadership and coordination to guide Buttcon through its PAIR certification process, while strengthening company initiatives across Education, Employment, Business Development, and Community Relationships.
This position combines relationship-building with strategic oversight to ensure Indigenous perspectives meaningfully inform Buttcon’s policies, partnerships, and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate regular PAIR Committee meetings.
- Develop and manage a clear action plan to support successful PAIR certification.
- Coordinate required documentation, reporting, and internal progress tracking.
- Build, nurture, and maintain trust-based relationships with Indigenous leaders, communities, and partner organizations.
- Advise on strategies to increase engagement with Indigenous-owned businesses and suppliers.
- Strengthen internal awareness and communication regarding Buttcon’s PAIR commitments and reconciliation efforts.
- Provide practical guidance to leadership and project teams on respectful and effective Indigenous engagement.
- Collaborate with internal teams - including Project Management, Procurement, Human Resources, and Safety - to identify opportunities for Indigenous engagement.
- Lead and participate in pre-construction and project launch engagement sessions with Indigenous communities to identify workforce, trade partner, and training needs.
- Monitor, report, and track Indigenous participation metrics, ensuring timely and accurate updates for project teams and clients.
- Represent Buttcon at community events, industry forums, and strategic meetings with integrity and professionalism.
- Contribute to equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, promoting Truth and Reconciliation principles throughout Buttcon’s culture, policies, and practices.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to Indigenous employees and trade partners throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring successful onboarding, skills development, and career advancement.
Qualification Requirements
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, and legal frameworks relevant to engagement in construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience in workforce development, skills training, or procurement support is an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to promoting reconciliation within corporate and project environments.
Working Conditions and Environment
- Project related travel anticipated
- Exposure to construction work site environment in all seasons
- Hybrid
The hiring range for this role is $40.00 – $58.00 per hour. The final hourly rate offered will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and location
