Description

Southland Co-op is seeking a full-time meat cutter for our Meat Department at the Food Store in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Meat Manager, the meat cutter is responsible to provide an exceptional level of customer service and maintain a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all company, industry, and governmental policies, procedures, and standards, including meeting established productivity standards. Responsible for ordering and preparation of meat, fish and seafood including cleaning, cutting/filleting/trimming, displaying, and pricing. Performs general housekeeping duties, assisting team members when necessary, and any other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for unloading the truck, the order, receipt, inspection, storage, and preparation of meats and/or fish and seafood (ex. Cutting and trim standards, traying, wrapping and pricing and also preparation of sausage, hamburger patties and other in store made product) and supplies to meat department standards. Using knives and other carving tools and equipment to cut, fillet, and trim meat/fish and seafood for sale to customers. Maintain and ensures compliance with local co-op standards and government food and sanitation health and safety standards. Merchandise, fill and rotate fresh, frozen and processed stock following FIFO procedures as well as Fill all necessary Charts and Logs (ex. grinder logs and temperature logs) timely and accurately.
  • Responsible for providing information, assistance, and exceptional customer service to all customers. Handles customer complaints in accordance with the Hassle-Free Guarantee policy in a professional manner, as per Southland policies and procedures. Packages, wraps, displays and prices meat products and assists customers with large or special orders. Follow production charts and stock control sheets to ensure displays are filled and adheres to quality and food safety standards.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties to ensure all areas of responsibility and Southland assets are safe, organized, clean, and maintained including sharpening equipment and monitoring refrigeration temperature within all food safety standards and guidelines.
  • May train all existing and new meat staff on proper techniques, new items, and ensuring correct procedures are followed.
  • Responsible to be familiar with and adhere to Southland Co-op policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in retail operations and:

  • You have a high school diploma; previous meat cutting experience and meat cutter trade certification is an asset.
  • You must be willing and able to participate in an intensive, in-store meat cutter training program according to established timelines.
  • You are familiar with safe food handling.
  • You have experience with bandsaw, manual cutting utensils and techniques, grinder and slicer are an asset.
  • You can fulfill physical job requirements; able to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 40 pounds unassisted regularly and larger weights periodically, work will involve exposure to cold temperatures in refrigerated and freezer areas.
  • You have the ability to work in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
