About the role

Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Program Manager, the IPC Data Analyst is a key member of the Infection Prevention and Control Surveillance and Reporting program in the Surveillance and Standards Team. This entry-level analyst position works to describe the distribution of healthcare-associated infections and support the infection prevention and control primary data collectors to create accurate, reliable and valid data. The IPC analysts support data quality and data reporting of AHS IPC surveillance initiatives and participate in the development and implementation of IPC program initiatives across the province with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.

Description:

As one of the AHS IPC data analysts, you will use standard methods to clean, organize and prepare data from the surveillance database for analysis using Excel and other software programs (e.g. R) and perform data quality checks using established procedures. You will prepare regular standard reports to monitor data quality errors, assist with system testing and with education and quality initiatives and prepare and present formal reports.

You will provide support and manage communication between Alberta Health Services IPC staff and IPC Surveillance and Standards staff; and will collaborate with key stakeholders to support prevention of healthcare-associated infections across AHS care settings. You will support ongoing development of surveillance initiatives by assisting with system testing. You will apply multi-faceted strategies to improve patient safety through your support for the IPC surveillance systems, through participation with quality initiatives and by providing informational support in evaluating IPC interventions.

Required Qualifications:

The minimum educational requirement for the data analyst position is a Baccalaureate degree in a data or health-related field with additional training such as epidemiology or biostatistics. Candidates should have expertise in database management as well as data analysis. Work experience and advanced training in a health-related field is an asset. The position may be placed at any AHS office location across the province.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other statistical software (e.g. R) products is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important especially the ability to communicate well with colleagues across the IPC program. Must be able to work effectively in a virtual team environment.
