NATURE OF THE WORK
The mentor teacher is primarily devoted to accompanying and supporting their peers in developing their professional competencies and in performing their teaching duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS
- Provide guidance and support to his or her peers in developing their professional competencies and performing their teaching functions.
- Share the knowledge acquired in his or her teaching practice
Including:
- Interpersonal skills
- Know-how
- Expertise
- The mentor teacher should act as a guide, model, and facilitator in his or her role of coach.
- The mentor teacher is to prioritize support to full-time and replacement teachers working on a full-time basis during a full school year.
- The mentor teacher is to prioritize time in their schedule to connect with mentees regularly.
- Other duties related to mentoring.
BOARD REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ teaching experience
- Completed professional development within the last 5 years (PDIGs, conferences, coursework, etc.)
- Takes a leadership role in school (staff assistant, governance, department head, school committees, professional learning communities, etc.)
- Willing and able to travel
- Works well with others and has strong interpersonal skills
- Has a collaborative mindset.
- Approachable and accessible.
- Knowledge of the Quebec Education Program and the Progressions of Learning.
- Credibility within the school and school board.
- Employs high quality teaching practices and has an understanding and ability to implement teaching initiatives supported by the school board.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty; notably in Education
8+ years experience
