As a Journeyperson Electrician, you will be a key member of the Field Operations Control Systems team, providing electrical support across the City's Drinking Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, and Stormwater Collection systems. Primary duties include:

  • Install, replace, maintain and repair electrical systems and related electrical equipment.
  • Test circuitry to ensure integrity and safety.
  • Troubleshoot motor control centers, protection relays, generators, heating and cooling systems, uninterruptible power supplies, and process related equipment.
  • Read, interpret and update electrical schematics and instrumentation loop diagrams.
  • Install and maintain distribution and control equipment such as switches, circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures.

Qualifications

  • A valid Journeyperson Electrician certificate, with Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement, or equivalent as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.
  • Successful applicants must qualify for Confined Space Entry certification.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with 4 years of related Journeyperson Water or Wastewater experience.
  • Completed instrumentation courses and/or a Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician Certificate or Instrumentation Technologist Certification are also considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires strong communication with the ability to quickly and independently acquire new knowledge, skills and technologies and work collaboratively within a team.

Working Conditions: This position is required to work in confined spaces and is exposed to noise, electrical equipment and high voltage.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday, 6:30am - 4:30pm.

Hours of work: Non-standard 40 hour work week
