Job Summary:
The Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of heavy construction and industrial equipment. This role ensures machinery operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
Location: Clearway's Yard – 23840 River Road, Maple Ridge, BC, V2W 1B7.
This role will require routine daily visits to our job sites, located across the Greater Vancouver Area.
Hours of Operation: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm (PST), including Saturdays, depending on workload. May occasionally require night shifts.
Compensation range: $45-$55 per hour
Essential Duties &Responsibilities:
Inspection & Diagnostics
- Including but not limited to bulldozer, excavators, loaders, rollers, backhoes, small compaction equipment, electrical tools and other items within our fleet.
- Detect faults and malfunctions through visual checks and performance tests.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized diagnostic systems, schematics, and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
Repair & Adjustment
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems using hand and power tools.
- Service attachments and working tools such as breakers, sweepers, hammers, buckets, forks, and other attachments.
- May perform repair and maintenance work on heavy trucks and other company vehicles as required
Testing & Quality Control
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance to ensure work meets manufacturer’s specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct performance checks on hydraulic, electrical, fuel, and braking systems.
Maintenance
- Clean, lubricate, and perform preventative and routine maintenance on equipment.
- Monitor wear and tear on machinery and recommend proactive repairs or replacement and provide feedback to upper management in the yard on a regular basis.
Technical & Documentation
- Read and interpret schematics and technical manuals.
- Use electronic diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair records.
- Perform Equipment Inspections on equipment on a quarterly basis using BIS.
Operator Training & Support
- Train equipment operators on proper daily lubrication, fluid checks, and basic maintenance practices to extend the life of machinery.
- Provide on-site guidance to operators on recognizing early signs of wear, leaks, or mechanical issues.
- Develop and communicate simple preventative maintenance routines operators can perform safely before and after shifts.
- Collaborate with site supervisors to reinforce maintenance best practices and ensure compliance with Clearway’s equipment care standards.
Safety
- Follow WorkSafe BC regulations, company safety policies, and environmental standards.
- Operate equipment safely for testing and verification.
Qualifications
- Valid Driving License is required. Must maintain a clean driver’s abstract and be a safe driver.
- Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician in BC; Red Seal Endorsement preferred.
- Must be experienced with computerized diagnostic equipment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, braking systems, and electronics.
- Ability to read and apply schematics and diagnostic reports.
