About the role

The Human Resources Department at the Corporation of the County of Prince Edward is currently accepting applications for the full-time, permanent position of Director, Long Term Care. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director, Long Term Care is responsible for the direction and management of the County’s long term care facility/facilities in accordance with relevant Acts, regulations, professional bodies, policies and directives from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Accreditation Canada. The Director, Long Term Care provides direction and oversight of finances, short term and long term planning, directs the efforts of the management group, other employees and contractors and actively supports positive relations with funding agencies, residents, families, and the general public.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Health or Social Services or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Completion of AdvantageOntario’s Administrator Leadership Program or equivalent, or willingness to obtain, required.
  • A minimum of five years of supervisory/management experience within a long-term care home, required.
  • Extensive knowledge of all MOHLTC standards for long term care with experience in the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable legislation and regulations pertinent to the role, as well as an understanding of relevant policies and legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, residents, family members and other groups.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including effective mentoring, coaching, counselling and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, families, government agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Highly developed communication and public relations skills; strong presentation and writing skills; ability to effectively communicate the Home’s priorities and interests.
  • Ability to successfully lead negotiations and meetings with high level facilitation in a complex regulatory environment with many competing interests, together with conflict resolution skills and the ability to identify and solve problems and make decisions.
  • Strong project management skills with proven ability to multitask and proactively manage competing priorities, with organizational skills necessary to excel in a high pressure, fast paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of management practices, budget development and administration, and funding and grant management.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy with a high degree of judgment and discretion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, file management, digital communication tools and devices and other related applications.
  • Willingness to provide proof of a negative result from a 2-Step TB Skin test.
  • Current satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening Check.
  • Must hold a valid Class “G” Ontario driver’s license.

The current annual salary range for this position is $149,910.98 to $209,911.57 as per the Non-Union By-Law. Compensation also includes a competitive benefit package and membership in OMERS, a defined benefit pension plan.
