Department Information

The Department of Health and Social Services works under the direction of the Minister and Deputy Minister, in partnership with the Health and Social Services Authorities, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the NWT through planning, development, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.

Job Information

As the Public Health Registries Officer, you will report to the Manager, Public Health Registries. You will be responsible for for collecting, managing, and providing accurate public health data related to notifiable diseases, conditions, tests, and immunizations as required by the Northwest Territories Public Health Act. This position notifies the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (OCPHO) of unusual disease indicators or outbreaks providing both routine and special reports to public health officials and national agencies

Key Qualifications and Equivalencies

Education and Experience

  • A post -secondary qualification in a health-related field (e.g. medical terminology, health services administration, health information, business administration, etc.) or a social science certificate
  • One (1) year of relevant experience

Knowledge and Skills

  • Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn new software systems as required

  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and external partners

  • Organizational Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment

  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn and take on new tasks, with a positive and flexible approach to problem-solving

  • Cultural Awareness: Sensitivity to and respect for diverse populations, including Indigenous clients and communities
