Overview Of Role The Solution Architect will have end-to-end responsibility for designing and delivering technology solutions that enable digital transformation and automation across WestJet’s Data Automations teams. This role ensures architectural integrity, alignment with corporate standards, and fitness-for-purpose by addressing stakeholder concerns and reconciling conflicting priorities. The architect will lead the creation of scalable, secure, and efficient solutions leveraging modern cloud services, automation frameworks, and enterprise platforms to support business agility and innovation.
The position requires strong collaboration across business units, technology teams, and external partners to develop and maintain solution roadmaps, ensure adherence to architectural principles, and deliver high-quality outcomes. The role will also provide thought leadership, mentor team members, and contribute to setting architectural standards that drive strategic objectives.
The role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and ensuring the integrity of end-to-end technology solutions to address specific project / program / product requirements and align to technology strategies, architectures, and engineering standards.
Key Deliverables / Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex, integrated solutions for digital business initiatives and automation projects.
- Define and maintain architectural principles, policies, and component selection standards.
- Ensure consistency of design across multiple projects and adherence to corporate architecture frameworks.
- Develop end-to-end technology solutions aligned with business requirements, technology strategies, and engineering standards.
- Create implementation roadmaps for Power Platform solutions, automation workflows, and cloud-based services.
- Manage trade-offs between functionality, cost, scalability, and security.
- Provide risk-based governance for solution implementation, including managing changes and deviations.
- Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements (PCI, PIPEDA, GDPR, CCPA).
- Maintain compatibility with enterprise strategies, policies, and standards.
- Engage stakeholders to interpret requirements, facilitate consensus, and articulate architectural decisions.
- Present concepts to senior leaders and non-technical audiences in clear, business-focused language.
- Mentor architects, developers, and analysts to foster best practices and innovation.
- Track emerging trends in automation, cloud services, and digital technologies.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships and evaluate new tools for automation.
- Contribute to architectural standards and participate in corporate architecture boards.
Experience & Qualifications

Postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

5+ years of experience in solution architecture, with exposure to automation and digital transformation projects.

Current certifications in Solution Architecture and/or Cloud platforms (Azure preferred); Power Platform certifications are a strong asset.

Proven experience with:
-
Cloud services (Azure), API design, microservices, and integration patterns.
-
Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) and automation frameworks.
-
Security controls across application, platform, and data layers.
-
Knowledge of the Snowflake Platform and capabilities considered a strong asset
-
Familiarity with LLMs and generative AI technologies (e.g., OpenAI, Azure OpenAI Service).

Hands-on experience with AI/ML platforms

Understanding of prompt engineering, model fine-tuning, and deployment strategies.

Knowledge of ethical AI principles and regulatory compliance for AI solutions.

Strong understanding of architecture frameworks (TOGAF, SABSA, Archimate, C4 model).

Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (PCI DSS, GDPR, PIPEDA).

Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, including influencing and mentoring.

Familiarity with agile methodologies and program/project delivery practices.
