The R&D Intern will support a wide range of activities that advance our product development and research goals. Responsibilities may include:
- Designing and executing experiments using laser, sensing, electronic, and opto‑mechanical systems to meet R&D objectives.
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, and clearly communicating results to key stakeholders.
- Developing tools and automation, including mechanical, electronic, or software components, to improve efficiency and streamline routine R&D tasks.
- Using programming tools (e.g., Python) for data analysis, visualization, and automation.
- Working hands**‑**on in laboratory environments, including optics and applications labs, as required.
- Preparing documentation of procedures, results, and findings
Requirements:
This 12- or 16-month internship is open to students currently in their 3rd year of a 4-year university program in engineering, physics, or a related discipline. Relevant programs include: engineering physics, physics, electronics engineering, mechatronics engineering, manufacturing engineering, optical engineering, or similar fields.
Laboratory experience, particularly in an optical lab, is preferred but not required.
Programming experience for data analysis (e.g., Python or MATLAB) is required. Experience with advanced statistics, machine learning, signal processing, or image processing is an asset.
Experience working with electronic and optical hardware is an asset.
All candidates are expected to be proficient in standard office software (MS 365) and be able to operate independently, under the guidance of senior researchers, without hour-to-hour supervision.
Candidates must be thoroughly fluent in written and spoken English. Proficiency in any other language from this list is not essential, but may be an asset: Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German, Italian, French, Polish.
Req Benefits: Benefits Provided: All Intern Canada employees receive: Vacation; three weeks per year accrued each pay period. Sick (paid time off); 6 days for use as sick or personal time. Holidays: 11 (eleven) paid holidays per calendar year.
Compensation: $20.00 - 27.00
