Location: Fort St. John, BC
Direct Report: Senior Archaeology Specialist

Salary: $38.00 - $50.00 per hour

Operating across Western Canada, H3M supports multiple energy sectors, commercial real estate, forestry, municipalities, and utilities. We support pre-construction, construction, and post-construction requirements of projects, managing our client’s assets from inception through to their retirement and reclamation. Taking a pragmatic approach to balancing land stewardship, project development, and economic sustainability.

H3M Environmental Ltd. is seeking a motivated Boreal Forest Field Director to join our team. The Field Director will be primarily responsible for project execution and client management to assist in H3M’s continued growth and diversification of client-focused services across Western Canada. The Field Director will assist with building and maintaining positive client relationships, focusing on providing top-quality service in regulatory expertise and following through on new business opportunities. The successful candidate will be required to maintain an understanding of applicable heritage regulations, guidelines, and associated industry practices within BC, and champion and promote H3M’s initiatives.

Role and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

Project Execution (55%)

  • Design, manage, and execute various archaeological assessments and associated reporting in accordance with the BC Heritage Conservation Act and needs of clients

  • Assist in preparation of program execution plans for projects

  • Be accountable for your assigned tasks and tasks of those under your supervision.

  • Scheduling, prioritization, and completion of work tasks

  • Write and review technical reports as required

  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates as required

  • Assist in the preparation of permit applications and final permit reports

Client Relations (25%)

  • Assist in H3M’s continued growth and diversification of client-focused services across Western Canada

  • Liaise with Indigenous communities to support participation and collaboration

  • Assist with building and maintaining positive client relationships, focusing on providing top quality service and regulatory expertise

  • Following through on new business opportunities

Resource Management (5%)

  • Actively champion and promote H3M’s initiatives

  • Train, mentor, and supervise internal staff and Indigenous participants aligned to H3M core values

Safety & Quality Assurance/Control (5%)

  • Participate in H3M’s Health & Safety Programs

  • Ensuring compliance of project activities with all relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations

  • Maintain Work Hub compliance and support the compliance of junior staff members

  • Submit timesheets on time and with accuracy

R****egulatory Compliance (10%)

  • Assist in the preparation of applications, reports, workplans, protocols, and other documents to ensure conformance with regulatory and policy requirements

  • Maintain an understanding of applicable cultural heritage management regulations, guidelines, and associated industry practices within BC

  • Maintain an understanding of the forestry and oil and gas services pertaining to Cultural Heritage Resource management

  • Ensure the highest of standards of practice are met when completing field assessments and cultural material collection

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in the field of Archaeology or Anthropology

  • Current, or working towards Field Director status in the Sub-Arctic Boreal Forest

  • 4+ years of archaeological consulting and business development experience

  • Comfortable working in remote locations with high physical demands

  • Experience in supervising small crews

  • Knowledge of Cultural Heritage regulations, guidelines, and associated industry practices
