Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Communications Specialist is responsible for creating and executing high-quality content across various platforms. With expertise in crafting clear, concise, and impactful messaging, they excel at translating complex information into engaging communications and delivering visually compelling PowerPoint presentations. This role involves building strong relationships with functional teams and programs to understand their communication and publishing needs. The Communications Specialist also oversees and coordinates publishing workflows in collaboration with IT, business units, and communications teams.

This role requires occasional travel to The Salvation Army of Canada's Territorial Headquarters in Toronto.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develops and executes internal communications strategies aligned with organizational goals and employee engagement.
  • Creates targeted, consistent, and impactful messaging across campaigns and communication platforms.
  • Builds strong partnerships with internal stakeholders to support strategic communications and business objectives.
  • Designs and manages audience-specific campaigns, analyzing performance to inform future initiatives.
  • Produces high-quality presentations by synthesizing information into clear, visually appealing formats.
  • Leads creative direction by coordinating with designers, photographers, and media specialists.
  • Supports project and program communications, including drafting announcements, promotional materials, and training content.
  • Manages communication materials and timelines, including fact sheets, guides, web content, and briefings.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, identifying risks, assigning tasks, and reporting on communication activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. Change Management or behavioral Analysis certifications/degree is an asset.
  • Agile project management training/certification/degree is an asset.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in corporate communications, with a focus on business transformation or organizational change.
  • Extensive experience in internal communications, change management, and employee engagement within large corporate environments.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute internal communication strategies and campaigns that align with business objectives.
  • Exceptional English writing skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills, capable of creating clear, engaging presentations from complex information.
  • Hands-on experience managing SharePoint intranet portals and producing organization-wide communications.
  • Skilled in content creation across multiple channels, both digital and print, including design software like InDesign and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities, with a track record of handling multiple initiatives and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience supporting IT-related communications initiatives and advising on internal communications best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and navigate change.
  • High emotional intelligence and professionalism, with a strong sense of integrity, discretion, and cultural sensitivity.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $66,831.48 to $83,539.35 with a maximum of $100,247.22.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
