About the role
Job Description Some of what you will do: As the Application Architect, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for defining, governing, and evolving application and integration architecture for Staples Canada’s platforms. This role partners closely with engineering, platform, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure applications are well-integrated, cloud-ready, secure, and aligned to enterprise standards, while remaining pragmatic and delivery-focused. Specifically, You Will
- Define and maintain end-to-end application architecture for retail and e-commerce platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Translate business capabilities and product roadmaps into clear architectural patterns, reference designs, and technical guardrails.
- Design and govern integration patterns across internal systems and external platforms, including : REST / GraphQL APIs, Event-driven and asynchronous messaging, Third-party SaaS integrations, Cloud-native and hybrid integrations
- Partner with integration, middleware, and platform teams to ensure consistent use of patterns such as: API Gateway / Management; Event streaming / messaging; Data synchronization and caching strategies
- Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and tools that improve application and integration capabilities and guide teams on the effective use of JavaScript, React, Node.js, .NET, and cloud services.
- Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to development teams across the full stack.
Some Of What You Need
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science/Computer related field
- Masters in Mathematics
- Experience in retail or e-commerce environments.
- Exposure to integration platforms, API management tools, or event streaming technologies.
- 7+ years of experience in application development and architecture (Node.js and/or .NET).
- Hands-on experience with: API-based integrations and asynchronous messaging; Cloud platforms and DevOps practices; Source control, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile delivery
- Solid understanding of object-oriented and service-oriented design principles.
