About the role
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Maintenance Lead is responsible for the proactive care, repair, and inventory management of our specialized equipment and facility. This hands-on role ensures maximum equipment uptime in a fast-paced environment through preventative maintenance, rapid troubleshooting, repair and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with the manufacturing team and contractors while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Active member in creating a culture of Safety within the team and other co-workers
- Perform inspection, troubleshooting, repair, fabrication, and replacement of mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components on specialty and equipment and facility
- Plan and execute scheduled preventative and reactive maintenance and document all activities in the maintenance management system to minimize downtime
- Assemble, install, test, and commission new equipment
- Manage and optimize spare-parts inventory
- Actively participate in Continuous Improvement and 5S/Kaizen initiatives to maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders
- Respond to occasional callouts as required
- Lead the ongoing improvement and effective use of the maintenance management system
- Provide mentorship to manufacturing production operators regarding equipment maintenance/operation and troubleshooting.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATION
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, or Maintenance Technician in a production or field-service environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience in hydraulics and PLC control systems preferred
- Excellent fabrication skills including GMAW, SMAW welding preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
- First aid, aerial lift/fall arrest certificates are considered assets
- Ability to build strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and team members
- Available for overtime when required
- Successful completion of pre-employment testing (drug & alcohol, physical abilities, etc.) is required
