South Country Co‑op is proud to be a trusted, community‑minded organization serving our members and guests. We are currently accepting applications for a Meat Manager to lead the planning, operations, and performance of our Meat Department.
Reporting to the Food Store Manager, the Meat Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and success of the Meat Department. This includes delivering exceptional guest service, achieving financial and operational targets, maintaining food safety and merchandising standards, and leading, developing, and engaging a high‑performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day‑to‑day operations of the Meat Department, including production, merchandising, inventory, and food safety
- Achieve budgeted goals related to sales, margin, expenses, and inventory
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop team members, fostering a positive and engaged work environment
- Ensure compliance with food safety, workplace health & safety, and company policies
- Deliver legendary guest service and maintain high department presentation standards
- Collaborate with store leadership and support continuous improvement initiatives Act as a brand ambassador, living the Co‑op values in all interactions
Who are you
You are looking for a career in Retail Store Operations and have:
- Retail Meat Cutting Certificate and/or 3–6 years of relevant retail experience
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience, preferably in a meat department
- At least 1 year of hands‑on meat cutting experience (meat processing certification is an asset)
- Strong knowledge of retail meat operations and food safety requirements
- Proven leadership, coaching, and employee engagement skills
- Excellent organization, communication, and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, changing environment with integrity and professionalism
- Co mpetent in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to work effectively in a diverse, collaborative, and customer‑focused environment
- A results-driven and continuous improvement mindset, focused on operational excellence and customer satisfaction Demonstrate the Co-op values of customer focused, builds awesome teams, and communicates effectively in every aspect of work
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Work in varying temperatures, including coolers and freezers regularly Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of our customers and members.
