The Role

As the Elder advisor/knowledge keeper you will support Cameco’s corporate responsibility team and site leadership to represent Key Lake and McArthur River in site visits, meetings, and celebrations, to provide and preserve Indigenous culture and traditions and offer guidance and teachings within that experience and knowledge. As a respected Elder/knowledge keeper from the local northern Saskatchewan community, you will demonstrate Cameco’s values of safety and environment, people, integrity and excellence in your daily activities.

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for bringing forward employee and contractor questions and concerns to site human resources.
  • Listen and provide guidance, as well as job shadowing employees in their daily activities, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Assist in planning and promoting emotional, spiritual, and physical activities to increase the overall well-being and cultural understanding of site employees and contractors.
  • Actively move throughout the sites to connect with employees and contractors in various work areas to foster relationships.

Required:

  • Resident of and living in the local community of English River First Nation, Lac La Ronge Indian Band or Pinehouse/Kineepik Métis Local #9

  • Two to three years of experience in community roles such as Elder, knowledge keeper, or councillor

  • Knowledge of local culture and traditional lifestyle (Dene, Cree and/or Métis)

  • Fluent in English and a local language (Dene, Cree and/or Michif)

  • Work a flexible schedule (approximately seven days per shift and eight shifts per year) and commute to site by aircraft

Asset:

  • Mine site or industrial work experience

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pre-employment substance test
