Position Overview
Nanaimo Art Gallery is seeking a Marketing Coordinator to join our team. This role helps connect people with contemporary art by developing and delivering marketing and communications that share our exhibitions, programs, and events with the community.
Working across the organization, the Marketing Coordinator creates digital and social content, coordinates advertising, produces email marketing, and manages website updates. With a strong sense of our voice and brand, you help ensure our communications are clear, engaging, and accessible.
You enjoy finding and sharing good stories, are curious about art and ideas, and are comfortable collaborating with staff, artists, and partners.
We are looking for an organized communicator who can manage multiple projects, pays close attention to detail, and confidently uses digital platforms.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Marketing Coordinator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Digital Communications
- Manage the Gallery’s social media presence across multiple platforms
- Develop and implement a social media content strategy
- Create engaging content for social media and digital channels
- Monitor trends, engagement, and performance through analytics
- Coordinate online advertising and report on campaign results
- Leverage user-generated content and community stories
- Write and produce the Gallery’s electronic newsletter and other email communications
- Create basic photo and video content for marketing purposes
Website
- Coordinate internal deadlines for website content
- Update and maintain website content
- Work with staff and web contractors to troubleshoot issues as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve user experience and accessibility
- Support and maintain SEO strategy
- Monitor and respond to website analytics
Advertising and Promotions
- Steward the Gallery’s brand to ensure consistency in tone and visual identity
- Coordinate media buys and work with contracted designers on advertising materials
- Manage the production of print materials from design through printing
- Host monthly internal check-ins with departments to coordinate marketing needs
Requirements (Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills)
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of related experience (a combination of education and experience will be considered)
- Passion for arts and culture, with an interest in contributing to a creative team
- Strong ability to identify, shape, and share compelling stories that engage audiences on social media and other digital platforms
- Experience with a range of marketing tools and practices, including email campaigns, social media planning, SEO, online advertising, traditional and print ads, influencer partnerships, and analytics
- Comfortable using digital tools, including social media platforms, CRM systems, email marketing software, WordPress, Adobe Suite, MS Office, and Google Workspace
- Experience supporting or advancing the brand, mission, and reputation of a non-profit organization
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Clear and confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills
- Strong critical thinking, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations and engage the right people to find solutions
- Understanding of legal and privacy considerations related to marketing and communications
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekend
