What can you expect from this position?

Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Response, this position coordinates all plumbing-related activities at the GTAA including sewage lifts and domestic and sanitary water activities.

As Plumber, Facilities Maintenance Projects, you will:

  • Conduct preventative maintenance repairs on plumbing and heating installations

  • Undertake, coordinate, repair and install systems

  • Provide on-site monitoring of plumbing and heating repair maintenance work being performed by outside contractors

  • Perform maintenance on sanitary and storm drainage systems

  • Perform backflow testing

This unionized position is classified at the Band B level, with an hourly wage of $51.51, based on a 40 hour work week. The successful candidate must be available to commence the duties of the position once a selection decision has been made. As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to complete a test.

This is the role for you, if you have:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Plumber in construction and maintenance
  • Ontario Certificate of Qualification in the trade of Plumber, Construction/Maintenance Certification is required
  • Knowledge of Confined Space Entry is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gas systems, Gas Fitter License is an asset
  • Valid OWWA (Ontario Water Works Association) certificate for Backflow prevention or AWWA (American Water Works Association)
  • Valid “G” Ontario Driver’s License
  • Able to obtain a “D/A” Class AVOP license within 30 days of appointment to the position
  • Able to obtain and maintain Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:

  • Knowledge of the plumbing system, standards and requirements, industry plumbing codes
  • Provides guidance and direction to apprentices, GTAA employees, and contractors to ensure work is completed to GTAA standards
  • Familiarity in work order systems
  • Ability to read and understand complex and detailed drawings and schematic layouts, manufacturer’s manuals and preventative manuals
  • Understand safety and standard procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift, carry and hold plumbing equipment and tools, bend, stoop, kneel and work in other awkward positions, and use fine finger movements to manipulate plumbing parts and tools when installing/repairing systems
  • Able to work shifts and work in inclement weather as required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively deal with people, be dependable, self-motivated, and show a mature approach in dealing with conflict and pressure situations
  • Knowledge of heating systems and life safety systems
