Quality Improvement Coordinator The Barrett Centre
About the role
The Operational Excellence and Quality Improvement team sits within the Quality, Equity and Care Experience Portfolio. The team works to promote and lead quality planning, improvement work, Accreditation and build quality improvement (QI) capacity and capability across Unity Health Toronto (UHT). The team’s structure and practices support elevating the organization’s performance to new heights by cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and streamlined operations.
The Barrett Centre for Quality Improvement (BCQI) is a key initiative within The Operational Excellence and Quality Improvement team. The Centre fosters a culture of continuous QI by building QI capacity among staff, learners, and patient and family partners. Reporting to the Manager, Barrett Centre for Quality Improvement, the Coordinator provides operational, administrative, and communications support to advance the Centre’s initiatives. This role supports the development of a Community of Practice (CoP), coordinates the annual QI Symposium, assists in developing related communications and reports, and helps organize education and engagement activities that promote quality improvement and innovation across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Event Coordination

Support the planning and execution of the annual QI Symposium, including logistics, speaker coordination, communications, registration, and post-event evaluation.

Assist with coordinating QI education sessions
-
Help coordinate and support other QI engagement events
-
Maintain event timelines, records, and budgets
Community of Practice (CoP) Support
-
Helps build and sustain the BCQI Community of Practice by coordinating meetings, developing communications, and supporting engagement activities.
-
Assist in maintaining member lists, discussion forums, and knowledge-sharing tools.
-
Support the creation and dissemination of resources that foster learning and collaboration among QI practitioners, staff, and patient/family partners.
Communications & Knowledge Sharing
-
Coordinate the design, writing, and distribution of QI newsletters and BCQI annual report, highlighting QI stories, events, and opportunities.
-
Support internal and external communications, including website updates, posters, and presentation materials.
-
Assist in tracking and summarizing key metrics related to communications and engagement.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
-
Liaise with internal departments, St. Joseph's Health Centre’s Foundation and other stakeholders to support Centre initiatives.

Respond to general inquiries about the BCQI and direct stakeholders to appropriate resources or team members.
Project & Administrative Support
-
Provide day-to-day administrative and coordination support to the Manager and project team
-
Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and briefing materials.
-
Assist in tracking progress of work plans, project deliverables, and key milestones.
-
Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, record minutes, and coordinate follow-up actions.
Qualifications
-
An undergraduate degree in Business or related field required
-
Minimum 2–4 years of relevant experience in QI, communications, or project management/coordination (healthcare or academic setting preferred)
-
Understanding of QI concepts including the IHI Model for Improvement, change management and process redesign (Lean/Six Sigma) an asset
-
Demonstrated high level of initiative, self-direction, flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to draft clear, engaging content.
-
Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
-
Ability to assist in analyzing complex problems, interpretation of operational needs, and developing integrated, creative solutions
-
Excellent computer skills for report generation and graphics presentations
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with digital communication tools (Zoom, Teams, SharePoint, Canva etc.).

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
