The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with four operating mines in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Nicaragua.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice to join our team. Reporting to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice is responsible for following the direction of Supervisors/Journeyperson HETs in conducting repairs, overhauls, and new builds to mining-related equipment. This position will use reasoning skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting functions.
This position will be based in Geraldton, Ontario on a rotational basis.
Key Responsibilities
Assisting with equipment assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete overhauls on heavy mining equipment according to schedule. Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required. Make recommendations regarding extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement. Interpret work order and technical manuals. Complete job-specific reports and paperwork as needed. Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety and follow all rules and legislation.
Required Experience & Skill Set
Prior experience in an industrial setting; mine site experience is an asset.
Job Conditions
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Willing to adapt and work in an inclusive work environment. Willing to perform repetitive tasks. Motivated and able to work in a challenging environment with minimal supervision. Comfortable working at heights. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Experience in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment. Experience with Komatsu, CAT, Epiroc equipment is an asset.
Certifications
Valid driver's license.
Education
Enrolled in the Canadian Apprenticeship Program.
