Salary range: $66,923.61 - $73,555.68 (40 hours per week)

The Multi-Skilled Operations Technician (MSOT) is responsible for the operation of a diverse variety of video and audio equipment within a range of production environments.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Must possess proven experience and demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of skill, and the ability to work creatively, accurately, and independently.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of ability in at least TWO (2) of the core job skills. (Note that preference will be given to candidates who can perform Video Switcher and or Audio Mixer functions).

Video Switcher

  • Perform sophisticated switching of signals using a multi ME switcher in both pre-production and live on-air environments.
  • Design, store and recall complicated multi-layer video effects.

Audio Mixer (Studio)

  • Perform prerecorded and live on-air audio mixes using multiple microphones as well as other sources.
  • Provide reinforcement of sound to audiences and performers.
  • Set up and operate audio routing systems to provide multi-channel Interrupted Fold Back (IFB).
  • Undertake field audio pick up operations using multiple microphones.
  • Ability to determine and recommend the best approach to recording and mixing.
  • Proven knowledge of audio mixing boards.
  • Must possess the knowledge to advise production personnel as to the most efficient manner to achieve the best possible audio recording results.
  • Camera (handheld/EFP/Jib and studio pedestal)
  • Assist production personnel in achieving the best visual results through such things as lens selection, camera angles and framing, the composition of camera shots, and the proper.
  • Experience working a live muti-camera environment.
  • Familiar with building and tearing down cameras inn a airpack/flight pack.
  • Must possess proven experience and demonstrated high level of ability in at least ONE (1) of the following secondary job functions:

Lighting

  • Install and focus various lighting fixtures; responsible for the security of lighting equipment (including bulbs) whether on location or in studio.
  • Connect and distribute electrical power based on location and requirements.
  • Ensure lighting is of optimum quality through the use of lighting control and operations for specific productions where lighting conditions are varied, uncontrolled or non-routine.
  • Set up and align multiple cameras to ensure continuity of colour balance and signal levels between each camera Analyzes /matches various video signals to achieve creative and technical objectives.
  • Be able to store and recall camera set-ups.

Floor Director

  • Responsible for the orderly operation and condition of the studio/location as assigned.
  • Provides floor direction (on behalf of director) to MSOT/talent.
  • Is the communication liaison between production office and studio/location.
  • Minimum five years of practical proven experience in live & recorded content technical multi-platform production, and a diploma/degree in television production or technical operations
  • High level of comprehension of the principals and the practical application of the High Definition Serial Digital system (HD-SDI)
  • Must have practical knowledge of and hands on experience working with the digital tapeless production environment including the ability to trouble shoot problems or issues through the chain, and experience in a multiplatform environment

What You Will Bring To TVO

  • Minimum five years of practical proven experience in live & recorded content technical multi-platform production, and a diploma/degree in television production or technical operations.
  • High level of comprehension of the principals and the practical application of the High Definition Serial Digital system (HD-SDI).
  • Must have practical knowledge of and hands on experience with the digital tapeless production environment including the ability to trouble shoot problems or issues through the chain, and experience in a multiplatform environment.
  • Must have the ability to work constructively in a three-person control room environment and to multi-task between multi- disciplined control room duties in a large control room environment.
  • Must be willing to be regularly scheduled into any of his/her qualified disciplines.
  • Experience using sound judgment and creative thinking in problem resolution, individually or in consultation within a group
  • Must have superior interpersonal skills, exercising maturity, tact and diplomacy, coupled with a customer service focus.
  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure; meet tight deadlines; work independently and manage simultaneous projects
  • Must have a good understanding of live control room procedures and protocols.
  • Must be self-motivated and must stay abreast of new technical developments.
  • Must be willing and able to work shifts and weekends.
  • Experience in evaluating and recommending technical equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to accept out-of-town assignments with overnight stay requirements.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a timely manner, clearly and concisely, to a variety of audiences.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook as well as understand of scheduling software.
  • Must have a valid Ontario drivers license.
