What Your Day Will Look Like:

We are looking for an Archaeological Field Director to support projects based out of our Etobicoke, Ontario office for the 2026 field season. Working across diverse project locations throughout the province, your primary role will be to lead and oversee field teams to deliver archaeological surveys, site assessments, and site mitigation strategies in compliance with regulatory requirements. In addition, you’ll support our team in conducting property inspections, preparing technical reports, processing and cataloguing artifacts, and contributing to proposals as needed. With support from our senior team, you will also mentor junior staff, provide quality assurance on fieldwork and documentation, and engage with clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous communities to support responsible project planning.

What You'll Do:

  • Complete Stage 1 property inspections.
  • Lead and supervise field crews of 2 to 6 field technicians to complete Stage 2 surveys, Stage 3 test excavations, and Stage 4 mitigations.
  • Motivate and guide field teams to deliver high-quality work efficiently and safely.
  • Complete accurate field documentation, including notes, drawings, artifact identification, stratigraphic interpretation, and digital data collection (ArcGIS Online/Field Maps).
  • Follow Consor’s health and safety procedures and maintain a “Safety First” attitude
  • Coordinate logistics, equipment, schedules, and field planning in collaboration with project managers and senior technical staff.
  • Engage and work respectfully with Indigenous communities and community representatives throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist with technical report preparation, proposal development, artifact processing, research, and professional development.
    Travel throughout Ontario, including overnight and extended deployments as required (per diem and accommodation provided); must be willing and capable of driving a company-provided vehicle (i.e., 4-wheel drive pick-up truck).

What You'll Need:

  • Valid Research (R) or Professional (P) License with the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline (Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline is an asset).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience supervising or directing archaeological fieldwork in Ontario.
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario archaeology, Indigenous and Euro-Canadian material culture, and archaeological field methodologies.
  • Proficiency with digital data collection tools (ArcGIS Online, Collector, Field Maps), GPS units, tablets, and standard field equipment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet documentation standards.
  • Proven leadership ability, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to team and community relations.
  • Ability to lift 30 to 50 lbs, carry 20+ lbs, and perform repetitive physical tasks (shoveling, troweling, screening)
  • Ability to walk or hike up to 10 km per day
  • Valid Ontario G driver's license.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
  • Dedication to health and safety, Indigenous engagement, and high quality, ethical archaeological practice.

Projected Compensation $32.00 - $45.00/per hour.
