Registered Practical Nurse (Complex Continuing Care-J)
About the role
Overview Responsible for the provision of basic nursing care as established by the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the standards of nursing care of this hospital.
Education
- Registered Practical Nursing diploma with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Training and certification in Geriatric Care/Gerontology preferred.
- Current BLS certification is required.
- Gerontology certificate an asset.
- Critical Care certification is an asset.
- Current Medication Administration certificate (for RPN); Asepsis course.
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) certificate is an asset
Qualifications
- Recent and relevant experience in LTC/chronic care setting, working with palliative care patients and chronic/ventilated patients.
- Experience with providing nursing care to short term rehabilitation patients.
- Experience with peripheral IV insertions as well as peripheral vascular access device nursing care and management.
- Experience with providing care for patients living with dementia and BPSD.
- Maintains competence relative to current practices.
- Familiar with feeding pumps, G-feeds, oxygen administration, skin wound management, intermittent catheterization, tracheal suctioning.
- Demonstrated skill in pain/symptom assessment and management within palliative scope of practice.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and knowledge/skill in grief support.
- Motivated to pursue education goals.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated skills in conflict management.
- Demonstrated excellent observational and assessment skills.
- Demonstrated superior organizational skills.
- Ventilator experience an asset.
- Experience working with coordinated care team mode.
- May be expected to work in all areas of the Complex Continuing Care & Rehab program (skills & abilities considered).
- Good work and attendance record required.
